Booty Shorts
My friend Rob is putting together a pirate themed colouring book for the upcoming Show and Sale at ACAD (March 19 – 21). I had a lot of fun drawing this one out… I even lost track of time.
Godzilla!
Hey! So it has been about a week, and I have made some progress on just one of many projects. I have a lot of work to do in my other classes but I’ve been neglecting them for the project I find more interesting at the time. This week could get interesting.
Anyway, here’s something I’m working on with Nick:
Buddy vs Ed
Here’s a little Narrative I finished today. It needs another page, but I was really happy with the drawing so I wanted to get it up. This is based on the Drum Battle in 1978 between Buddy Rich and Ed Shaughnessy on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. It was a challenge getting the likeness of the characters right, I swear I went through half of my vinyl eraser drawing that second panel with Johnny Carson.
Tretorn Fashion Illustration
I found the coolest shoes on the internet a couple months ago. And so I used that as inspiration for a project in my corporate illustration class last semester. This project really triggered some ideas for the way to take my finished work. Making a finished piece is a struggle, I always find myself just really interested in the drawing and when it comes to finishing the piece I am usually not pleased with the results. Now that is probably because I’m not the best at time management and I don’t give myself enough time to lay some colour over top of the drawing, but hey, I do my best. It is a struggle to find a process that I can call my own. I’ve been really into using ink and watercolour or ink wash, and then I cut out shapes with white gouache. White gouache is the coolest stuff on the planet. I’ve been finding some really cool and practical uses for it.
I submitted this piece to the CAPIC Rodeo Student contest. Myself and a lot of ACAD peers made the first cut, it was staggering to see the amount of familiar names on the list. It really put in perspective the quality of work that comes out of this program. My friends Doug placed third and Sander won second prize so we’re going to hit them up for beers!
Collaboration With Nick Wong
I was interested in doing an illustration with a photographer, and so I talked to my friendĀ Nick. We were both pretty pumped to work on something collaboratively and to be honest it was a nice change to rely on someone to do half the work! This is the first of three sets of diptychs. The inspiration for this was Planet Terror meets Steve McQueen. The other two are on their way…
